Special Guest Claude Terry

Claude Terry has a knack for reaching the highest possible plateaus as scholar, athlete, businessman, coach and pastor.  Claude was valedictorian of Modesto High School and set virtually every single and career basketball scoring record.

At Stanford University, Claude broke every scoring record in the history of

Stanford except the single game scoring record held by Hank Luisetti.

Claude was MVP at Stanford (3 years), All Northern California (3 years), All

Pac-8, All West Coast, and two-time All-American.  In 1972, he was voted Stanford Athlete of the Year and Sportsmen of Stanislaus Athlete of the Year.

At that time, he became the number two scorer in Pac-8 history in conference games for career points per game (22.2)—right behind Lew Alcindor (Kareem Abdul Jabbar).

At Stanford, he earned a degree in Economics (3.2 gpa).  He later received a Master’s Degree in Education from Seattle Pacific University and attained

another Master’s in Exegetical Theology from Western Seminary in June 2001.

Claude was drafted by the Denver Nuggets, playing four seasons there.  He broke many of the Nuggets’ three point shooting records and once sank a record 49 straight free throws.  Claude scored 14 points in the 1976 Nuggets/All-Star game.  Claude also played with the Buffalo Braves, the Atlanta Hawks and the Napoli Basket in the Italian professional league.

Claude has been inducted into the Sportsmen of Stanislaus, Modesto High

School and Stanford University Hall of Fame.

In 1997, he was honored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches as a member of the Silver Anniversary Team, an award given to only five people each year, recognizing not only their college achievement but contributions to society since their graduations twenty-five years earlier.

He has served on the State Board for Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Board for Sports Outreach America, and as an International Board Member for the Alliance for Saturation Church Planting. He presently is an officer in an urban organization that purposes to “be a catalyst and activator for partnerships in the transformation of neighborhoods by serving and linking the Church and community organizations” called City Ministry Network.

He’s worked as an advertising company representative and developed a very successful sales and promotions territory with the Converse Company.  He is creator of the “Shot Spot,” an apparatus in aiding young people to develop concentration focus in basketball shooting.

For ten years, Claude made his mark in the coaching ranks as basketball coach

at California State University, Stanislaus and Seattle Pacific University.  He has worked as a college athletic department consultant and has developed national basketball development strategies in the country of Guam. He and his wife are

co-founders of the N.E.t.S. Foundation which supports the growth of the church around the world. For fifteen years he served as Executive Director of Pro Basketball Fellowship (which coordinates the NBA chapel program and the

PRO-CLAIM Projects which encourage and support missions through the vehicle of basketball all around the globe). For the last fourteen years he has served as Pastor of World Outreach at First Baptist Church in Modesto, CA.

His duties at the church include the administration of the multifaceted World Outreach area that oversees global missionaries and projects, local outreach and partnerships, a mission candidates’ program, three Asian congregations, a poor and homeless ministry (Monday Night Church), God’s Way Out (recovery ministry), evangelism and an international student ministry. He has traveled to over 70 countries around the world.

He and his wife, Gayleen, have three adult children and ten special grandchildren!
